Use Attachments to request supporting documents during signing—no extra emails or portals. Drop an Attachment in the editor, assign it to the correct role, and (optionally) mark it Required if the providing the file is obligatory with clear instructions (“Photo ID, both sides” or “W-9 PDF”). Common uses include ID/insurance proof, receipts/invoices, certifications, vendor tax forms, and medical/consent addenda. Signers can upload from their device or capture with the mobile app’s camera; attachments are stored with the document and available to download after completion. For best results, place the field near the relevant clause, name it clearly, and preview the flow before sending.
📝 The Attachment field is an Enterprise feature: click here to learn more.
Attachment Field Setup
1. Open your form in editing mode. Select Attachment from the left-side bar and place it on the form. You can add additional instructions on the attachment field through the right-side panel: open the Additional Settings menu and fill out the field's label.
📝 You can request one file through one attachment field; you can add up to 10 attachment fields on a form. As a sender, you cannot restrict the type of file that the signer will be able to upload during the signing session.
The following file formats will be rejected by the system: rejected formats: [‘.exe’, ‘.dmg’, ‘.pkg’, ‘.bat’, ‘.vbs’, ‘.cmd’, ‘.msi’]. Uploaded file must not be more than 10MB.
The signer will see instructions for uploading a file into the attachment field during the signing session. After the file has been uploaded, it can also be replaced when hitting the Replace button.
Locating your attachment after the form is signed
If you sent the form via email invite, any uploaded attachments are delivered with the completed document as a ZIP file.
You can also download attachments directly in SignNow—from the document’s view/edit screen or from the Documents folder (see below).
The Download With option also allows you to download the signed form, its history, or any related attachments.
